Cervia pilot Municipality for climate change study
The LSI Lastem weather station enters the monitoring network of the Interreg Italy – Croatia Adriadapt Project
The Automatic Weather Station installed by LSI Lastem in Cervia becomes part of the network of stations of the Interreg Italy-Croatia Project “Adriadapt- resilience information platform for Adriatic cities and towns”, of which Cervia is a Pilot Municipality.
This project addresses the issue of climate change to identify useful actions to promote local and regional resilience by developing the knowledge base necessary to identify adequate planning and climate adaptation options.
The goal is supported by four actions:
- produce high-resolution datasets and projections that provide detailed and reliable information on climate-related impacts in regions
- create a climate information system or knowledge platform for the Adriatic region containing best practices, guidance documents, legal frameworks and climate and vulnerability studies
- test and integrate the knowledge platform in selected Italian and Croatian pilot cities as well as extended urban areas where adaptation and resilience plans will be designed
- maintain and disseminate information.
Cervia is a “pilot” Municipality for the process of collecting, analyzing and processing data, relating to the particular identified criticalities, including the macro-theme of urban heat islands.
To investigate this aspect, it was essential to introduce a climate mapping activity at climate level and space-time monitoring: through the LSI Lastem professional weather station, capable of accurately monitoring the main environmental parameters: temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, pressure, precipitation and solar radiation.
The Municipality of Cervia, which has about 30,000 inhabitants, is located on the coast of Emilia-Romagna. The coastal area is characterized by a high index of urbanization, dominated by tourist activities, while the hinterland has a predominantly agricultural connotation.
In addition to its reputation as a seaside tourist city, Cervia is known for its environmental and distinctive characteristics, such as the salt pans, included in the Po Delta Park of Emilia-Romagna, and the coastal pine forests.
