Crosswind monitoring system
The transverse wind monitoring system was updated at the exit of tunnels of the Rome – Naples line via Cassino, one of the oldest Italian railway lines.
The first monitoring station affected by the update is the one installed in Tora Presenzano, a service station not open to the public. A new generation with a sonic anemometer and data transmission on the RFI GSM / R line has been added to the existing control unit. The data, transmitted directly to the RFI Control Room in Rome, is processed by the decision support system which, based on preset thresholds, can launch alarms in the event of cross-sectional winds that are dangerous for the movement of trains on the route and, in particular, at the exit of the galleries.
