Evaluation of workers' health and safety

For the real-time assessment of the health and safety of workers in conditions of high thermal stress, portable systems are not normally equipped with all the features required for long-term permanent monitoring. LSI Lastem has developed a system suitable for large industrial plants where it is necessary to permanently monitor the conditions of instantaneous thermal stress in a large number of positions. The system consists of a number of Satellite radio modules, for the measurement of air temperature, relative humidity, radiant temperature, wet temperature. They calculate a number of heat stress indices, including the WBGT according to the ISO7243 standard. Each module transmits data via radio to a Master data log-ger which sends information in real time to a control room, produces alarms via sms, e-mail, connects to local alarm systems, as well as sends the data to Scada systems via Modbus RTU / TCP protocol.

ISTSA stations for monitoring heat stress

The ISTSA stations, developed by LSI LASTEM, are advanced solutions for monitoring people’s thermal stress in outdoor and indoor environments. They are available in two versions:

  • ISTSA2100 (fixed outdoor station): designed for permanent outdoor installations, it includes sensors for air temperature and humidity, wet bulb temperature with natural ventilation and black globe temperature, mounted on a 2-meter pole with base and guy ropes. The system is completed by an Alpha-Log data logger and, optionally, by a solar panel.
  • ISTSA1100 (transportable indoor/outdoor station): ideal for temporary or mobile monitoring, it is equipped with the same fundamental sensors as the fixed version, mounted on a transportable tripod. It includes a transport case and a solar panel with tilting support.

Both stations calculate locally the thermal stress indices such as WBGT, Heat Index and UTCI (with optional sensors), and are designed to operate in extreme environmental conditions. Data can be transmitted to a remote PC, displayed in real time via MQTT dashboard and used to generate automatic alarms via SMS, email or electrical outputs. All sensors can be supplied with ISO9001 and ISO17025 calibration certificates.
