The well-being and safety of workers are essential for any company, especially in industrial environments where thermal conditions can be extreme. The technicians guarantee the efficiency of the system

For example, a thermo-hygrometer that measures the air temperature must guarantee accuracy within the limit of ±0.5° compared to the reference instrumentation.

Monitoring thermal stress for workers’ health

The mechanical company in question has eight fixed microclimatic stations that are used to monitor the level of heat stress during the hot periods, which tend to go from May to October.

The microclimatic control units have been installed to evaluate the thermo-hygrometric conditions, the air exchange and the air speed inside industrial environments, workshops and assembly production departments. These places, especially when operators work with machinery, are subject to an increase in temperature, both of the air and of the radiant temperature generated by the machinery.

These microclimatic stations carry out continuous measurements of the fundamental environmental parameters, provide instantaneous results and calculate the WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) index. This is one of the main indicators used to evaluate heat stress and provides indications on the thermal state of the environment. The ISO7243 standard establishes quantitative limits not to be exceeded in order to preserve workers’ safety and prevent potential dangers.
