NH3 sensors

Ammonia
Sensor for measuring Ammonia in indoor applications.

Description

Range of sensors for measuring gas concentration in indoor environments.

Range of sensors for measuring gas concentration in indoor environments. The line includes sensors (PRGSAx200 and ESOxxx) with cables and mini-DIN connectors for use with LSI LASTEM data loggers type M-Log (ELO009) and sensors with 4…20 mA output and RS485 Modbus (PRGSAx900 and DSOxxx) that can be used by third-party systems or LSI LASTEM data loggers with terminal block. The sensors are based on electrochemical cell, infrared (CO2) and PID (VOC) technology.

  • Wide range of sensors optimized for indoor air quality monitoring;
  • Portable and stand-alone applications in indoor environments;
  • Sensors with 4…20 mA output and RS485 Modbus and free-wire cable (PRGSAx900 and DSOxxx range). Sensors with mV output, cable and MiniDIN connector (range PRGSAx200 and ESOxxx range);
  • Range: 0…100 ppm;
  • Operative temperature: -40…50 °C;
  • Sensor life: 2 years.
  • Model codes: PRGSAB200, PRGSAB900, PRGSAB900.1.

Why is ammonia (NH₃) monitoring important?

Ammonia (NH₃) is a gas widely used in industrial processes and can also be generated by the decomposition of organic matter and waste. High concentrations can irritate the eyes and respiratory system, while leaks in enclosed spaces can rapidly create hazardous conditions. Monitoring NH₃ therefore helps detect changes in concentration and supports the control of air quality and operating conditions in affected environments.

In which environments and applications is NH₃ monitoring useful?

Ammonia monitoring is particularly important in industrial refrigeration systems, food-processing facilities and cold-storage warehouses, where NH₃ is widely used as a refrigerant. It is also relevant in agriculture and livestock facilities, fertiliser production and handling, the chemical industry and some waste-management applications. In these environments, continuous measurement can help identify leaks, emissions or abnormal accumulations.

How does the LSI LASTEM ammonia sensor work?

LSI LASTEM NH₃ sensors use an electrochemical cell to measure ammonia concentration in air. The range covers 0–100 ppm, with a declared operating temperature from -40 to 50 °C and an indicative sensor life of approximately 2 years. The sensors are designed for gas concentration monitoring in indoor environments.

How can LSI LASTEM NH₃ sensors be integrated into a monitoring system?

LSI LASTEM NH₃ sensors can be used for both portable measurement surveys and fixed continuous monitoring. Models are available with mV output and MiniDIN connectors for LSI LASTEM data loggers, as well as versions with 4–20 mA and RS485 Modbus that can also be integrated into third-party acquisition systems. Ammonia can also be monitored together with other gases and environmental parameters for a more comprehensive multiparameter assessment.
