Once the stables of the Benedictine monastery, it is now a cutting-edge research center. This site is the focus of an ambitious <\/span><b>sustainable redevelopment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>environmental monitoring<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project that combines cutting-edge technologies, heritage protection, and citizen well-being. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, the stables have obtained the first GBC Historic Building certificate in Italy and the Ecomondo award for sustainable construction, confirming the quality and innovation of the project.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3e5ac9c elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3e5ac9c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">GEOFIT: an innovative approach to geothermal refurbishment\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b6e8a20 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b6e8a20\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The European <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/geofit-project.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>GEOFIT<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project, funded by the EU&#8217;s <\/span><b>Horizon 2020<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> program, aims to revolutionize the energy renovation of buildings through a <\/span><b>holistic and innovative <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">approach based on the use of geothermal energy. The goal is to develop systems that are <\/span><b>cost-competitive<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>easy to install<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and capable of ensuring <\/span><b>efficient low-temperature heating<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><b> effective high-temperature cooling<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, using the most advanced technologies and methods available.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To test and validate these solutions, GEOFIT has been successfully implemented at <\/span><b>five pilot sites across Europe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including Ireland, Italy, France, and Spain. The selected sites represent a broad spectrum of climate conditions, building types, and geological characteristics, making the project a true open-air laboratory for energy refurbishment in real-world settings.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4a48ab5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4a48ab5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Rocca Sant\u2019Apollinare: a pilot site of excellence\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-caf6aeb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"caf6aeb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rocca Sant\u2019Apollinare (PG) is one of five pilot sites chosen to test these innovative technologies. In the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/geofit-project.eu\/pilots\/perugia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">case of Perugia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the objective was challenging: to apply a <\/span><b>cutting-edge hybrid geothermal system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to a building dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries, with significant cultural value and located in a seismic zone. The interventions were carried out with excavations limited to a depth of 2.5 meters, through five parallel trenches and underground heat exchange rings, <\/span><b>minimizing <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>visual and structural impact<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27db16e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"27db16e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why environmental monitoring is essential\n\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-61e0e35 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"61e0e35\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To ensure accurate control of comfort and energy efficiency, the<\/span><b> continuous monitoring system <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">implemented at Rocca Sant&#8217;Apollinare uses two types of LSI LASTEM stations:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Outdoor weather station:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> measures temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, and precipitation;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Indoor microclimate station:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> measures indoor temperature and humidity, black globe temperature, wet bulb temperature, and air velocity.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jointly monitoring<\/span><b> indoor and outdoor conditions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is essential for assessing <\/span><b>thermohygrometric comfort<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, analyzing <\/span><b>building-environment energy balances<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and optimizing <\/span><b>plant management<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through predictive strategies.
