In November 2022, it was updated with the addition of the tallest webcam in the world.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cb58ff6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cb58ff6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>The Khumbu valley, Nepal, is part of a\u00a0<b>long-term environmental monitoring<\/b>, through 7 LSI LASTEM meteorological stations operating in 7 different sites, from the city of Lukla (2800 m) to the Kala Patthar mountain (5600 m). All of them have been regularly working for over 14 years, although they face the most adverse conditions that occur at such altitudes on a daily basis.<\/p><p>The\u00a0<a href=\"\/en\/product-category\/sensors\/meteo-sensors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>meteorological instrumentation<\/b><\/a>\u00a0faces the severe climatic seasons in the Himalayan area, with solidity and data accuracy, including the monsoons with uninterrupted rains for over three months and the dry and cold winters with intense winds and very cold temperatures.<\/p><p>The monitoring activity is managed by the research project of the\u00a0<b>Pyramid\u00a0<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.evk2cnr.org\/cms\/en\/evk2cnr_committee\/pyramid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laboratory and Observatory<\/a>, located at an\u00a0<b>altitude of 5,050 m on the slopes of Mount Everest<\/b>. It is promoted by\u00a0<b>Ev-K2-CNR<\/b>\u00a0(<i>Department of the Italian National Research Council<\/i>),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evk2minoprio.org\/en\/home-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>EvK2Minoprio<\/b><\/a>,\u00a0<b>NAST<\/b>\u00a0(<i>Nepal Academy of Science and Technology<\/i>) and by some Italian universities, such as UNIMI, UNI Chieti, UNICA and UNIBS.<\/p><p>In November 2022, the weather station on Mount Kala Patthar at 5600 m altitude, fully working since 2008,\u00a0<b>was updated becoming an AAWS<\/b>\u00a0(<i>Advanced Automatic Weather Station<\/i>) by detecting, in addition, specific microclimatic measurements of radiation and soil temperatures. The center pursues the\u00a0<b>data and scientific information<\/b>\u00a0collection regarding the Himalayan mountains climate, which are sensitive and relevant\u00a0 indicators of\u00a0<b>global climate change<\/b>.<\/p><p>The structure, called \u201cPyramid\u201d due to its shape, functions as a\u00a0<b>high-altitude multidisciplinary research laboratory<\/b>, with the extra functions of the\u00a0<b>Observatory<\/b>, called NCOP (<i>Nepal Climatic Observatory Pyramid<\/i>), which is equipped with a specific tools for the air quality monitoring.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e920e18 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e920e18\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 the\u00a0<a href=\"\/en\/prodotto\/e-log\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">E-log<\/a>\u00a0data logger, is located at an altitude of 5600 meters, at the foot of Mount Pumori 7150 m, between Himalaya and the border with Tibet,\u00a0where\u00a0the climate is affected by both \u201c<b>climatic engines<\/b>\u201c.<\/p><p>Installed in 2008, the station provided with WMO-standard weather data, plus\u00a0<b>specific sensors<\/b>\u00a0to study the the Nepalese microclimatic areas on the border with Tibet, such as:<\/p><ul><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>ultraviolet radiation<\/b>\u00a0(UV-A) with the specific\u00a0sensor;<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">the\u00a0<b>soil temperature<\/b>, which detects the energy of solar radiation;<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>radiometric measurements<\/b>: 5 specific measurements, including global solar radiation and the one coming from the ground.<\/li><\/ul><p><i>\u201cThe challenge of\u00a0<\/i><b><i>long-term climate monitoring in Himalaya<\/i><\/b><i>\u00a0was made possible thanks to the\u00a0<\/i><b><i>know-how<\/i><\/b><i>\u00a0of LSI LASTEM,\u00a0<\/i>as stated by Gian Pietro Verza, Technical Manager of the Pyramid,<i>\u00a0and to the\u00a0<\/i><b><i>complete control over the technologie<\/i><\/b><i>s, with the continuous\u00a0<\/i><b><i>commitment to ensure their reliability<\/i><\/b><i>\u00a0even in class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>The network of the various meteorological stations still active today is the\u00a0<b>flagship of the Italian experience<\/b>\u00a0in the meteorological phenomena analysis of the highest mountains in the world.<\/p><p>These are\u00a0<b>5 weather stations<\/b>\u00a0(including the one in Kala Patthar) installed from 2000 until 2011.<\/p><p>The stations are located at the Pyramid (5050m), close to Lukla local airport (2660m), at the headquarters of the Everest National park (<i>Sagarmatha National Park<\/i>) in Namche (3570m), at one of the highest villages permanently inhabited: Pheriche (4260m), and on the glacier of Changri Nup (5700m).<\/p><p>Another network of 3 connected stations has been activated in\u00a0<b>Pakistan<\/b>, including the areas of Askole (3000m), Urdukas (3926m) and Concordia (4700m).<\/p><p>These are networks of stations that are\u00a0<b>unique in the world<\/b>\u00a0in such inaccessible area like the Himalaya.<\/p><p>As stated by Gian Piero Verza, who saw the birth of the Pyramid project, it would not have been possible to create the network of meteorological stations in Nepal without the support of LSI LASTEM, a support that was also guaranteed for the AWS test of the South Col of Everest at 8000 meters.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div camera installed in 2022 is located at an altitude of 5600 meters on mount Kala Patthar, facing Everest, and it records one image per minute, from a distance of\u00a0<b>only 10 km as the crow flies<\/b>, from the highest point on the planet.<\/p><p>The idea of \u200b\u200bthe camera, powered by photovoltaic panels and with wireless transmission and satellite connection to the Internet, is by Gian Pietro Verza.
