Tech-Levee_Watch: a research dedicated to hydrogeological instability

LSI LASTEM participates in the Tech-Levee-Watch project, promoted by the Politecnico di Milano, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and funded by the Cariplo Foundation as part of the research dedicated to hydrogeological instability.
The aim of the project is to use new geophysical monitoring methodologies to evaluate the vulnerability of the embankments and to provide a risk prevention and prevention tool. The Tech Levee Watch project involves the implementation of a series of interconnected activities in order to obtain a diagnostic-monitoring-alert procedure that can provide a methodology for the prediction, prevention and containment of the hydrogeological risk associated with the detected embankments in the ground .
Our task is to provide, install and maintain the resistancemeter G.R.E.T.A., already developed with the PRO.ACTIVE project, and once again the most suitable instrument for the continuous monitoring of water infiltrations in the banks. G.R.E.T.A.. provides real-time terrain resistivity data that, appropriately processed by an algorithm, makes infiltration maps and data to support decisions available to technicians.
For the Tech-Levee-Watch project, the stretch of embankment was chosen on the Torrent Parma in the Municipality of Colorno (PR), which in December 2017 has overflowed by touching the record level of 9.47 meters and overwhelming the sandbags placed to protect and flooding the inhabited and the palace. This stretch of embankment has been the subject of restoration work and is currently monitored in particular by AIPO, which made the site available for the project and actively collaborated in the success of the installation.
